The Library aims to be more than a library, it aims to become a community hub.

A free library service, in conjunction with South Tyneside Council
Access to IT for all ages
Opportunities for all members of the local community to be actively involved in running The Library
Formal and informal education opportunities for adults, children and young people and families
A safe and positive experience for everyone in an inclusive and community space
The opportunity for the community to feed back to The Library in order that it can improve, develop, adapt and change in response to that feedback

This is only possible with your support.

The Library needs people to come and support events as the income from all our events helps towards the upkeep of the library. The Library needs people to help manage and run the Library – either as occasional helpers, as volunteers or trustees. The Library requires approx. £30,000 a year to pay utility bills, maintenance and other day to day running costs. The Library needs people to donate. Otherwise The Library will close.

There are so many ways in which you can support The Library – by donating your time and /or by donating your money.

You may wish to help out at a particular event or activity from time to time or you may wish to become a volunteer, trustee or a Friend of the Library.

You may wish also to support The Library financially. With your financial support, we can keep The Library open and develop a vibrant community hub for all ages, offering a range of activities, regular events and, of course, access to IT and a full range of books.

Become a Volunteer or Friend of the Library

If you are a person itching to get involved, then come on in. But you may be a person who would love to help but are a bit anxious – you may be asking do I need to know about computers? Will I be left on my own? Really, I am a bit too shy. Please come and talk to us so we can show you how volunteering works. At the very least, we get to meet each other and have a chat! It would be lovely to see you.

There are 2 ways you can volunteer regularly: –

Become a Library support Volunteer.
Become a Volunteer Trustee

Friends of the Library

If you can’t commit to volunteering on a regular basis, you can also help us by becoming a Friend of the Library. Our Friends are people who like to be updated regularly about events and activities and who actively support us by attending and contributing to the ongoing upkeep of The Library. Many of our Friends make a regular donation to help support the library financially.
