Become a Volunteer or Friend of the Library

At present (October 2021) we are not recruiting new volunteers. Should this situation change we will make an appropriate announcement here and on our social media pages. Below is some general information about volunteering, which you may find useful.  We are always actively recruiting people to become Friends of the Library, which is a great way to help support The Library

Whether you want to work as a volunteer for a few hours a week or be involved in some of the other work of The Library we would love to hear from you. From activities & events planning to book management and social media we can offer you a rewarding opportunity to support and give back to your local community. We encourage our volunteers to become active in our various subcommittees and to exercise their skills as much as they wish.

A group of people inside The LibraryThe volunteers sign up for their shifts using free online software called Sign Up. There are usually two volunteers per shift, one of whom will be a lead volunteer who is more experienced and agrees to take responsibility for, e.g., opening up/closing The Library. Every new volunteer goes through induction training.

We have no employees and so without our volunteers The Library could not remain open.

When we resume recruiting we will provide a link to the application form.

Our Friends of the Library are people who don’t actively volunteer for the day to day running of the library but like to be updated regularly about events and activities and who actively support us by attending and contributing to the ongoing upkeep of The Library.  Many of our Friends also make a regular donation to help support the library financially.
